Daily Democrat, Clinton MO – Billie G. Carter, 74, Clinton, died Sunday, February 22, 1998, at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services were held February 27 at the First Christian Church, Clinton. Burial was in Clinton Memory Gardens Cemetery. Billie Carter was a good ol’ boy by small town standards. A man who was always willing to do more and give more than he ever received. Billie could be described as a teacher, a leader and a person who loved to work with his hands. He particularly took pride in building cabinets and other wood projects and in working at the church, whether it was cooking and serving dinners or maintenance. He was involved in a number of community activities which included leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, elder of the First Christian Church, board member and chairman of many departments at the church, driving force during the building of the church, ex-POW group, member of VFW, cook and organizer of community dinners and active member of the Fair Board. He was also a man with a great passion for the outdoors. He spent many happy hours hunting and fishing until his health failed. When visitors came, he especially enjoyed showing them God’s work, whether in Missouri or Arizona where they spent the last 12 winters. Billie was born February 7, 1924, to Earnest and Isa Cowan Carter in rural Henry County. He was the third of six children, Leonard (deceased), Thelma (who died in infancy), while Glenn, C.B. and Dorothy continue to be devoted members of the family. Billie joined the Armed Forces in February 1943 during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mxxxxxx Sxxx in Columbus, Kansas, on February 5, 1944. Billie soon reported for overseas duty in Germany, returned home after spending nearly six months in a German POW camp and was discharged in November 1945. After returning home, Billie was a meat cutter at Kimball’s Locker and Peckenpaugh’s Grocery. He later worked at the post office where he retired after 26 years. Family was important to Billie. He visited his mother Isa daily as long as his health permitted. During his visits he would do errands and upkeep as well as share a cup of coffee. He welcomed Mxxxxxx’s mother, Mattie (Martha) into their home following her husband, Fayette’s sudden death in 1946. Mattie continued to live with Billie, Mxxxxxx and the family until her death in 1973. Billie was always patient, appreciative, understanding and above all, loving to Mattie. Those same attributes were shared with his entire family, but most evident in his devotion to Mxxxxxx. Billie and Mxxxxxx lived most of their 54 years of married life in Clinton as devoted parents and members of the First Christian Church and community. Two of their four children, Mxxxxxx and husband Pxxx Nxxx, Kxxxx and husband Jxx Mxxxxxxxxx, live near Montrose, while Rxx and wife Bxxxxx reside in Lee’s Summit, and Sxxxxx and wife Bxxxxxx live in Springfield. Billie and Mxxxxxx have also been loving grandparents to 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother Isa Bryant, Clinton; sister Dxxxxxx and husband Wxxxxxx Sxxxx, Windsor; brothers Gxxxx and wife Jxxxxxxx, Independence, C. x. and wife Nxxxx, Clinton; sister-in-law Bxxxxx Cxxxxx, Clinton, and Aunt Axxx and Uncle Wayne Corder of Minnesota, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Earnest; infant sister Thelma; brother Leonard, and stepfather Roy Bryant. Funeral services were Friday, February 27, at the First Christian Church, Clinton. Burial was in Clinton Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Daily Democrat, Clinton MO, Jun 7 2007 – Bradford Wayne Carter, 30, Lee’s Summit, left this life to be in the comfort of the Lord Almighty on June 5, 2007. Brad was born in Clinton on July 31, 1976, to Bxxxxx and Rxx Cxxxxx. He resided with his parents in Clinton and attended Holy Rosary Catholic School. He graduated from Clinton High School. The family resided in Rolla a brief time before moving to Lee’s Summit in 1996. From the beginning, it was evident that Brad was a special person who was given to this earth to carry out special needs and to brighten the lives of all that he touched. Maybe it was his heritage, being born from the union of two strong families, or maybe it was the realization that living with a chronic disease can only bring, but whatever the reason Brad was always an ambassador of good will. He never ever let the fact that he had Cystic Fibrosis lessen his abilities. After moving to Lee’s Summit, Brad became interested in fitness and body building. With a strong mentor, Brad started to work his frail body into shape and became a model we could all envy. Brad moved on to become a personal trainer and later started his own personal training firm, where he consulted, recommended a diet regiment and supplement program along with a workout regiment. He competed in numerous body building competitions and won awards on Power Shack, Mr. Missouri two years running in different classes and also 10th in the nation in Las Vegas. Most recently, due to health restrictions, Brad worked as a surgical operations tech for SOSI, maintaining customer accounts and equipment for numerous hospitals in the Kansas City area. Brad is survived by his parents, Rxx and Bxxxxx Cxxxxx, Lee’s Summit; his paternal grandmother Mxxxxxx Cxxxxx of Clinton, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Margaret Kantner, and paternal grandfather Billie Carter, all of Clinton. Services will be Saturday at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, with interment at Clinton Memory Gardens Cemetery.
