Native of Adair Dead

Mrs. Belle Snow Patterson, a native of this county, died in Ardmore, Okla., on Friday, February 28. She was a member of Adair County’s prominent families and has many relavitves and friends here.

She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Harris, of Ardmore after an illness of twelve years duration. Another daughter Mrs. P. S. Rowe, of Altus, Okla., also survives. Mrs. Patterson was buried in Ardmore.

The following memorial was written by friends in Altus, Okla., where the deceased lived for many years:

Belle Snow was born February 5, 1855 in Tabor Community, Adair County Ky. At an early age she started teaching school and continued in this work until at the age of twenty-four years she was married to James B. Patterson, of Jamestown, Russell County, Ky. Three children were born to this union, two of whom survive; Mr. Patterson and one daughter having died several years ago. Mrs. Patterson liven in Jamestown all hof her married life and joined the EAstern Star there about 34 years ago. She was an active member of this order until her health would no longer permit her to attend. In her early girlhood Mrs. Patterson became a member of the First Christian Church. She was a true Christian and loved her Lord and his church above everything else. She moved to Altus, Okla., in 1910 and immediately took an active part in the Eastern Star as well as in the church work. Though she suffered untild agony for many years, her patience and her sweet disposition endeared her to the hears of all who came in contact with her. Mrs. Patterson moved with her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Harris, to Ardmore Okla., in 1926. Because of her long residence in Altus and many loving friends she had there, she requested that she be buried there.

On February 23rd, 8 A. M. at the age of 78 years and 18 days, she said; “goodnight here but good morning up there.” Her many friends, borth in the Chapter and the Church mourn the loss of this wonderful friend.

Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Snow Have Been Married Fifty-Five Years

This esteemed couple celebrated this event Monday, February 22

Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Snow, who live northwest of Ballard, celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary Feb. 22, 1932. Mr. Snow was 77 years old the 12th of last November, and Mrs. Snow was 72 years old the 26th of last July. They are the parents of five children all living but one. There have been born twelve grand children, six of whom are living.

Mr. Snow is the oldest of a family of ten children, only five of whom are living. Mrs. Snow is also the oldest of a family of ten children-all living. The youngest of her parents’ family is 49 years old, and the eldest 72 years.

Their children always go to the home to be with them and help them celebrate their anniversary either that day or one near that time, when health and roads permit. They both have fairly good health. Mrs. Snow is able to help with the house work, and Mr. Snow is still farming.

Mr. and Mrs. Snow both were born in Adair County, Kentucky, where they grew to maturity, and while still living in that county took the marriage vows in 1877. In 1882 they came to Missouri, and have lived in this state ever since. They have lived on the same farm for twenty-six years, and are among the highly esteemed citizens of this vicinity, having many friends in and around Urich. The Herald joins all these friends in extending congratulations and in wishing that they may live to celebrate many more anniversaries of their marriage.

A Beloved Mother Passes Into Eternity, Earthly Life of Mrs. Sarah Belle Snow came to a Close Last Saturday – Sarah Belle Conover, was born in Adair County, Kentucky, near Columbia, on July 26, 1859, and departed this life near Ballard, Mo., May 2nd, 1936, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 6 days. On Feb. 22nd, 1877, she was united in marriage to Robert Sidney Snow, who preceded her in death May 6th, 1933. To this union were born five children, all of whom suvive, except one who died in infancy. Those surviving are: Fayette Snow, and Dora Mills, southwest of Urich, Mo.; Mrs. Zella Dale, of Lucas, Mo., and Yada Snow, of the home. In Oct., 1882, she and her family moved to Missouri, settling in Henry County, where they spent the remainder of their lives except one year, which they spent in Carroll County, near Bogard. She was the oldest of ten children, all of whom survive, except one brother who passed away about fifteen months ago. Her brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs. Fannie Willis, Mrs. Lula Sinclair, Mrs. Effie Grasham, Mrs. Tennie Dehoney, John Conover, Hudson Conover, and Montie Conover, all of Columbia, Kentucky, and Mrs. Susie Carter, of Carrollton, Mo. The grandchildren are: Merle Dale, Gilbert, Jxxxxxx and Mxxxxxx Snow, Kenneth Mills, all southwest of Urich, Mo.; Mrs. Berneice Wendleton, of Creighton, Mo. In early life she was converted and united with Zion Baptist Church in Columbia, Kentucky
, and after moving to Missouri, she moved her membership to Fairview Baptist Church near Ballard, where it remained. She was a devoted companion a beloved mother and a kind neighbor. She had been a patient sufferer for several months and although everything was done for her that loving hands could do, she was called home to her Master. Heaven for the children now has a real meaning, life should have a higher calling. Her memory will be theirs while they remain here. This same Power that has taken this dear mother, will reach down some day and take them. The kinsmen and friends recognize in her one whose entire life was centered in the welfare of her children. She was one of them in their growing years, and one for them after maturity, encouraging them in their endevaor to succeed in any undertaking. She was a sympathetic and helpful neighbor and as long as her health would permit she was ever ready to render service to those in need and to lend comfort to those in their sorrow. Her hands were never idle when they could be used for the benefit and comfort of any and all who might need her help. Funeral services were held the Cove Creek Christian Church Monday, May 4. The pallbearers were the four grandsons, Merle Dale and Gilbert Snow, Kenneth Mills and Parvin Wendleton; also Roy Staley and Lee Wilds. The flower girls were the three granddaughters, Mrs. Parvin Wendleton, Misses Jxxxxxx and Mxxxxxx Snow; alsoo Irene Staley, Ellen Jane McClenny and Mrs. Marie Snow. the body was laid to rest in the Garden City Cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her in death just three years ago. The children of Mrs. Snow were all at her bedside when she passed into the Great Beyond. Those from a distance who attended Grandmother Snow’s funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Julian Snow, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilds, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Susie Carter and son, Luther and wife and daughter, Lena Waggerman, and husband of Bogard, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Langan, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Millie Canaday and son, Alvin, of Kansas City, Mo; Mrs. Bob Snow, Kansas City; Mrs. Jim Snow and Mrs. Lula Gillian of Gunn City, Mo. and Dr. Ralph Pulliam, of Colony, Kansas.

Robert Sidney Snow was born to Jasper Newton Snow and Elizabeth Dunbar Snow in Adair County, Kentucky, November 12, 1854 on a Tobacco Plantation. Sarah Belle Conover was born in Adair County, Kentucky on July 26, 1859. They were married February 22, 1877. The year of 1882, [ed - I'm inclined to think the original trip was in October 1880 because of his obituary and this bio says that Dora was 2 - which would be 1882] Robert S. and his brother-in-law, William Carter, Hessakiah Chelf and others migrated to Missouri by covered wagon through rugged prairies and hills with no laid out roads. It took them many months. He and his group encountered many experiences and hardships. A year or so later, Sarah and two-year-old daughter, Dora, came by train to Appleton City where they were met by Robert. Robert was located on a farm near Lucas in Henry County, where they lived for three years. They, then moved to Bates county, where they spent the remainder of their life with the exception of one year which was spent in Carroll county. The “Snow Hill” in the Aaron community was named that, because of their patent rights to their farm nearby. At the time of their deaths, they were living at their farm located four miles northeast of Ballard where they had lived since 1910.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Snow, one dying in infancy. The others were Dora Mills, Fayette Snow, Zella Dale and Yada Snow.

Robert Sidney was the eldest of ten children and in his early years had attended college and taught school. Mrs. Corrina Hurt, a resident of Ballard for many years, was a sister.

Sarah Belle was the eldest of 10 children. her family remained in Kentucky with the exception of one sister, Susie Carter and her husband William who had also come to Missouri.

Uncle Sid, as he was commonly called, was a charter member of the Cove Creek Christian Church. He was a Master Mason, belonging to the Masonic Lodge at Johnstown which is now defunct. Robert S. died in May, 1933 and Sarah Belle died in May, 1936. They are both buried at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, MO

Mrs. Zella Snow Dale was born west of Lucas. She was a dressmaker having a shop in Creighton also did dressmaking at Harzfeld’s in Kansas City for a time. Her husband was a banker and she assisted him in the bank. When they lost their only child, they took several motherless boys into their home. Her eyesight is impaired, but she visits by telephone and keeps up on all the latest news. Her neat home is located at 204 West Fourth Street, Urich.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Dale lived in Moniteau County for 32 years. At that time, Mr. Dale was cashier of the banks in Lupus and Jamestown, Missouri.

Mr. Dale was born at Creighton, Missouri, on June 17, 1888. He was the son on Mathew and Matilda Dale of Illinois. He was one of six children, four of which are still living.

Mrs. Zella Dale was born near Urich, Missouri, on September 26, 1886. She was the daughter of Robert Sydney and Sarah Bell Conover Snow of Kentucky. She was one of four children and the only one to survive. Mrs. and Mrs. Dale one son, Bobby Gene, who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale lived on a farm near Creighton where he was a farmer and a rural mail carrier until moving to Garden City, Missouri, where he was cashier of the Farmers Bark for several years before moving to Lupus in 1934 and becoming cashier of the bank there. The Lupus Bank merged with the bank of Jamestown on October 30, 1938, with Mr. Dale as cashier there.

On January 11, 1941, the bank of Jamestown closed for liquidation proceedings after having served the community for 50 years. The New Peoples Bank of Jamestown opened its doors for business January 13, 1941, with Mr. Dale as cashier; her served in that capacity until his successor A. E. McDaniel assumed his duties as cashier July 1, 1954, when Mr. Dale retired.

On January 3, 1956, Mr. Dale suffered a fatal heart attack while attending an income tax meeting in California, Missouri. He was buried in the cemetery in Garden City.

Mrs. Dale and her sister, Miss Yada Snow, continued to live in Jamestown until Miss Snow’s death in 1965. Mrs. Dale then moved to Urich, Missouri in May, 1967, to be near her relatives. In September, 1979, she suffered a broken hip so at present, she is at the Westwood Nursing Home in Clinton, Missouri. She will be 94 years old in September.

Her memories of living in Moniteau County are very happy and pleasant and are still quite vivid with her, and she often speaks of the many fine friends and the happy times in the years she spent there; these memories help to make her days pass more quickly.

Since the above history was written, Mrs. Zella Dale died on May 17, 1980.

C.S. AND ZELLA SNOW DALE AND YADA SNOW

Yada was the youngest child of Robert Sidney and Sarah Belle Conover Snow. She was born May 21, 1891 in Bates County. Her sisters were Dora Mills and Zella Dale, her brother, Fayette Snow.
Zella was born near Lucas, MO., September 26, 1886. She married C.S. Dale of the Creighton community March 5, 1911. They farmed a few years, then moved to Garden City where he became engaged in the banking business. Zella was a noted dressmaker and milliner and also assisted C.S. at the Bank. They were the parents of one son who died in infancy. They moved to Lupus, Mo. in 1934, then later to Jamestown, Mo. where he continued as an Executive and Cashier in those banks. C.S. died January 3, 1956.
Yada and Zella were educated in Bates County. Yada was a telephone operator at Archie, Mo. for several years. Yada lived with her parents and helped them on the farm which was located four miles northeast of Ballard, where they had lived since 1910. Yada cared for her parents as their health began to fail. Several years after their deaths, when the farm work became more than she could manage, she moved to Jamestown, Mo. and lived with her sister Zella and husband. She was then employed at the Jamestown Bank and also at the Jamestown Telephone Office, where she remained until her retirement. Yada died February 10, 1965.
Zella moved to Urich, Mo. in 1967 to be near relatives an
d remained there until her death May 17, 1980. She, C.S. and Miss Yada are buried in the cemetery at Garden City, Mo.

In September, 1979, she suffered a broken hip so at present, she is at the Westwood Nursing Home in Clinton, Missouri. She will be 94 years old in September.
Her memories of living in Moniteau County are very happy and pleasant and are still quite vivid with her, and she often speaks of the many fine friends and the happy times in the years she spent there; these memories help to make her days pass more quickly.

C.S. AND ZELLA SNOW DALE AND YADA SNOW

Yada was the youngest child of Robert Sidney and Sarah Belle Conover Snow. She was born May 21, 1891 in Bates County. Her sisters were Dora Mills and Zella Dale, her brother, Fayette Snow.
Zella was born near Lucas, MO., September 26, 1886. She married C.S. Dale of the Creighton community March 5, 1911. They farmed a few years, then moved to Garden City where he became engaged in the banking business. Zella was a noted dressmaker and milliner and also assisted C.S. at the Bank. They were the parents of one son who died in infancy. They moved to Lupus, Mo. in 1934, then later to Jamestown, Mo. where he continued as an Executive and Cashier in those banks. C.S. died January 3, 1956.
Yada and Zella were educated in Bates County. Yada was a telephone operator at Archie, Mo. for several years. Yada lived with her parents and helped them on the farm which was located four miles northeast of Ballard, where they had lived since 1910. Yada cared for her parents as their health began to fail. Several years after their deaths, when the farm work became more than she could manage, she moved to Jamestown, Mo. and lived with her sister Zella and husband. She was then employed at the Jamestown Bank and also at the Jamestown Telephone Office, where she remained until her retirement. Yada died February 10, 1965.
Zella moved to Urich, Mo. in 1967 to be near relatives and remained there until her death May 17, 1980. She, C.S. and Miss Yada are buried in the cemetery at Garden City, Mo.

C. S. and Zella (Snow) Dale

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Dale lived in Moniteau County for 32 years. At that time, Mr. Dale was cashier of the banks in Lupus and Jamestown, Missouri.

Mr. Dale was born at Creighton, Missouri, on June 17, 1888. He was the son on Mathew and Matilda Dale of Illinois. He was one of six children, four of which are still living.

Mrs. Zella Dale was born near Urich, Missouri, on September 26, 1886. She was the daughter of Robert Sydney and Sarah Bell Conover Snow of Kentucky. She was one of four children and the only one to survive. Mrs. and Mrs. Dale one son, Bobby Gene, who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale lived on a farm near Creighton where he was a farmer and a rural mail carrier until moving to Garden City, Missouri, where he was cashier of the Farmers Bark for several years before moving to Lupus in 1934 and becoming cashier of the bank there. The Lupus Bank merged with the bank of Jamestown on October 30, 1938, with Mr. Dale as cashier there.

On January 11, 1941, the bank of Jamestown closed for liquidation proceedings after having served the community for 50 years. The New Peoples Bank of Jamestown opened its doors for business January 13, 1941, with Mr. Dale as cashier; her served in that capacity until his successor A. E. McDaniel assumed his duties as cashier July 1, 1954, when Mr. Dale retired.

On January 3, 1956, Mr. Dale suffered a fatal heart attack while attending an income tax meeting in California, Missouri. He was buried in the cemetery in Garden City.

Mrs. Dale and her sister, Miss Yada Snow, continued to live in Jamestown until Miss Snow’s death in 1965. Mrs. Dale then moved to Urich, Missouri in May, 1967, to be near her relatives.
