Obituary
Mrs. Mattie Ewing Spears Snow was born at Johnstown, Missouri, on April 26, 1883, daughter of James Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Tillery Spears, and passed away November 26, 1973, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Mo. She was one of 17 children. She was united in marriage to Fayette Snow on July 6, 1913, and moved to a farm, northeast of Ballard, where they spent their entire married life. To this union was born three sons: James Robert, who died in infancy, Merle Dale and Gilbert Ronald; two daughters, Jxxxxxx B. and Mxxxxxx F. After the death of her husband, May 6, 1946, she came to Clinton and made her home with her daughter, son-in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. Billie Carter. She united with the Oak Grove Methodist Church, near Johnstown, later transferring her membership to the Cove Creek Christian church and after making her home in Clinton, she transferred to the Clinton Christian church. She was a member of the Berean Sunday school class, of which she loved attending. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 14 brothers and sisters, a daughter-in-law, Viola Zehnder Snow. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Merle D. and Rxxx Snow of Urich, Mo., and Gilbert and Marie Snow of Texarkana, Arkansas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jxxxxxx and Ora Smith of Denver, Colorado, and Mxxxxxx and Billie Carter of Clinton, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Spears of Butler, Mo. and DeArmond Spears and wife, Letha, of Topeka, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Zella Snow Dale of Urich, Mo.; a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was conducted at the Clinton Christian church, Clinton, Mo., Wednesday afternoon, November 28. Burial was made in the Oak Hill cemetery, Butler, Mo.
